These are the few events announced for May (besides the Throwback Challenge, Legendary Pokemon returning along with Remote Raid Passes, and Season 2 of the GO Battle League):
May Research Breakthrough encounter: Shinx
From Friday, May 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. until Monday, June 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT, the Flash Pokémon, Shinx, will be available as a Research Breakthrough encounter, and it’ll come with bonus Shinx Candies! Shinx was previously only available through Raids and 10 km Eggs. Shinx may be shiny.
May Pokémon Spotlight Hours
Pokémon Spotlight Hour will take place every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time. Like last month, it will combine Pokemon Spotlight Hour and Mystery Bonus Hour together into one.
- Tuesday, May 5, 2020: Shellder will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Stardust for catching Pokémon.
- Tuesday, May 12, 2020: Sunkern will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the XP for catching Pokémon.
- Tuesday, May 19, 2020: Poochyena will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.
- Tuesday, May 26, 2020: Bronzor will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.
All four of these Pokemon have their shiny variants available.
Team GO Rocket Special Research update
There will be no Team GO Rocket Special Research available until October. Now this doesn’t mean we won’t see Team GO Rocket until then… Professor Willow and the Team Leaders will continue to investigate.
GO Battle League Season 2 delayed
Due to a technical issue, the start of Season 2 of the Go Battle League has been delayed.
Bonus Research Tasks
At midnight every day, Trainers will now receive a bonus task without having to spin a PokéStop. These tasks will focus on activities that you can complete from home.
You can receive the Bonus Research Task even if you have 3 tasks, a fourth space will open up. If you have 4 tasks, you can not receive the Bonus Task nor any regular task from a PokeStop.
